Girl in Bed


Girl in Bed, Lucian Freud, 1952

Robert Lowell died from a heart attack in 1977 while riding in a taxicab from John F. Kennedy International Airport to Manhattan.
He had visited Caroline Blackwood in Ireland and with him he had Lucian Freud's painting of Caroline; Girl in Bed. He was holding
it in his arms as he died.

Caroline Blackwood married Lucian Freud in 1953 and their marriage was dissolved in 1958.

Wanted


Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, 1951 (oil on copper) Wanted poster designed by Lucian Freud in 2001. The portrait was stolen from an exhibition at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin in 1998, sometime between 11 AM and 3 PM, May 27, and disappeared without a trace.
